Cookie Sculptor

Oreo

A few years ago, a Creative Director walked up to me in the halls of W+K Portland and said "Hey, for Oreo's Superbowl campaign, we're going to take fans' Instagram posts and sculpt them out of Oreo cookies and creme. You sculpt, right?"

I immediately replied "Yep!" with zero confidence. I was not a sculptor. I hadn't attempted to sculpt anything since my one and only mandatory high school art class. When I got to the studio, I was surrounded by people who had sculpted things since high school. Really nice things. I felt only fear. I wanted to run over to the producers and turn in my apron.

But I didn't. Instead, I grabbed a picture of an albino alligator, a bucket of Oreo Creme, and some tools. I took a deep breath, gave my insecurity a time out and then I was an Oreo sculptor. I was such a good Oreo sculptor that I was invited to sculpt Oreos live on the Today Show. But the agency wouldn't let me do it. I hope to forgive them someday.

I've been chasing that feeling ever since. Not being 100% sure it'll work out and doing it anyway. Figuring it out one step at a time and having a blast along the way.

Sure, this isn't the world's best alligator sculpture, but it just might be the best one made out of Oreo stuf.
